Our mission is to preserve the craft of stone masonry
and spread the ancient stonework of Scotland across the USA.

In the Ancient World, the first men erected giant slabs of stones in circles. They worked the stone, shaping it, moving it, struggling with it, to build monuments to their Gods. Later, men and women built shelters from stone. The stone was hard to work with, but never deteriorated. For millennia, mankind knew stone. We lived in stone, surrounded by it. Thousands of us spent our lives working with it. Later still, we built whole cities of stone. We built homes, castles, churches, cathedrals, pyramids, monuments, all from stone. In the Old World, we used stone to shelter our animals. Our ancestors worked the stone, shaping it, struggling with it. They built miles of walls, up steep slopes, and through valleys. All the greatest of man’s achievements have been recorded in stone. Stone heritage will live forever. It’s a part of us all.

How We Train...

Our craft is a balance of art and engineering backed up by a true understanding of proven age-old principles. Contrary to some beliefs and practices, there is more to quality dry stone construction than just stacking stones. A professional dry stone craftsman is highly skilled. A Stone Man dry stone craftsman is trained first hand.

All Stone Man franchise owners undergo an intense, hands-on training in Scotland where they encounter some of the world’s oldest stone structures. The training is specially designed to teach the actual craftsmanship behind authentic dry stone masonry and includes tearing down and rebuilding stretches of centuries old walls.

The reason we go to such expense is to introduce the underlying secrets behind these longstanding dry stone structures; structures which remain standing after hundreds of years and have successfully weathered the test of time. It is this structural integrity that we want to always bring to you.

Once certified, each Stone Man franchise owner possesses the necessary qualifications to design and build similar stone projects that will likely remain for generations to come. With a full understanding of dry stone construction, the same principles can be adapted for all kinds of stone installations, large or small, with or without mortar.
