A firepit or fireplace becomes a social gathering place. Firepits are considerably less expensive, and provide many of the same functions.

Most people we build firepits for say they don’t expect to use them a whole lot; they want them mainly for looks. Then they (and we) are surprised to find that the firepit is a major attraction and gets used far more than they ever anticipated!
