HARDSCAPE COMES FIRST

Here at The Stone Man, we specialize in the hardscape design of your yard. We work with certified Landscape Architects and plantsmen to create any additional landscaping that may be desired.

On many of our projects, a full landscape design is not required. We are quite happy to quote to and work on individual features only. This can be a nice cost saving for the homeowner, as it allows them to use their own knowledge and expertise to handle the planting side of things. When a full landscape design is necessary, we work together with other experts to make the design come true, starting with the hardscape.

We start with the hardscape for a couple reasons. First, it allows us to ensure that the basic underlying structure of the area is sound, and that the design will last. Second, it’s fairly common that the stone aspects of the design will be the most exceptional, and they often represent the biggest investment. Therefore our designs try to make sure that the stonework is arranged to allow the most positive visual interpretation. Sometimes this means subtle placement, other times it means making stone the main feature.

When the hardscape concept is complete, we run it by one of the certified landscape architects that we work with. They will make recommendations for any alterations and help to select the plants that will most complement the hardscape.

Here’s a great example of a full design coming together. The patio, pathways, steps, and walls were all designed as the main stone features. Then one of our planting experts designed the placement of the flowers, shrubs, and trees. The result? A timeless garden, where stress just seems to float away.
